Premium carpeting is a “triple-threat” design concept. It harmonizes your overall color scheme, protects your floor from wear and provides sumptuous texture as well as underfoot cushioning. Several components of a carpet contribute to its texture and cushioning: material, weave type and pile height.
Here at Best Buy Carpet & Granite in Aurora, we feature premium carpeting that is constructed for durability and beauty, boasting an array of weave types and textures. Here’s a brief rundown of our favorite carpet types and weaves.
Berber
Berber carpeting derives its name from a Moroccan ethnic group and its signature weave type. Modern Berber carpets have a loop pile resembling the knotted weave of traditional handmade Berber carpets.
Level Loop
Similar to Berber, level loop carpets contain loop construction. The loops are all the same height, providing a uniform texture that is fairly easy to clean and maintain.
Multi-Level Loop
Multi-Level Loop carpets are a sibling of level loop, except the construction entails loops of differing sizes. This nuanced texture accentuates patterns, and it’s also easy to clean and look after.
Tip/Random Sheared
Sheared carpets have loop tufting of differing heights that when cut yield a high-low texture containing sheared tips and loops.
Saxony, Velvet and Plush
These three carpet types are very typical of residential carpeting. Piles are dense, cut evenly and smooth. Velvet and plush are slightly more voluminous than saxony-style, and the former typically has a slight sheen to it.
Shag
Shag is arguably the most iconic of all weave types. Its pile isn’t dense, but it consists of individual strands that are cut high, resulting in a pile height that is taller than that of other weave types. Shag feels supple and plush to the touch and looks luxurious.
Frieze
Frieze is rather like shag, except the weave is twisted for heightened sensation, softness and cushioning.
You have to feel these carpet types to fully appreciate their magnificence. We’re thrilled to discuss and offer advice to help you make the best design choices for your home or office.
