Why You Should Use Pool Ionization

Pool ionization is a safe alternative to chlorine and other dangerous pool treatment chemicals. Ionization has been used for centuries as a water purifier. In Ancient Egypt they used silver containers to store water to keep it clean and free of bacteria and algae. The Persians also used silver flagons to keep water clean and safe during military expeditions. The Greeks ionized their water with copper to clean it as well. NASA also uses ionized water so astronauts can have clean drinking water in space. Many people have used and liked ionized pools for their low maintenance and numerous health benefits.

What is Ionization?

Pool ionization is the process of sending a small amount of voltage through a metal such as copper or silver. This releases the ions in the metal which disperse in the pool. These ions will stay in the pool until they find a microorganism to destroy. This means they will stay in the pool until they’ve finished their job. The metal begins disinfecting when the positively charged metal creates an electrostatic bond with the areas of the microorganism cell walls that are negatively charged. This creates stresses in the walls that prevent needed liquids and gases from getting inside the algae which diminishes the intake of necessary nutrients. The metal ions then act as a virus for the algae attacking sulfur which has amino acid residues in the proteins that are used for photosynthesis. This blocks the photosynthesis and kills the algae cell.

Pros of Using Ionization Vs Other Chemicals

There are many problems caused by using chorine in pools. Chlorine has been proven to be a serious health hazard. Children who are exposed to it can develop allergies or asthma. In adults it can cause cancer and heart problems. Chlorine also gives off a slightly pungent odor. There are many benefits of using ionization as a pool treatment. Copper, which is one of the kinds of ionizations that are available, has many health benefits and can help prevent cancer and improve heart health. Ionization, unlike chlorine, is environment friendly. It also does not cause red eyes and does not bleach clothing and hair. As a pool cleaner it destroys algae, not your pool leading to less repairs and damage. Ionization is also inexpensive and low maintenance. They last three to five years and aren’t overly expensive to replace. The pool cleaning almost takes care of itself. In addition, ionization does not give off much of an odor.
