When Should child start kindergarten?

by | Jan 21, 2022 | Preschool

Although the most typical age for starting school is five years old, many children are in kindergarten earlier, or even later. An increasing number of parents are enrolling their kids later and later, while others recognize the value of getting a head start on early childhood education. Formal education can be instrumental for a child’s early social and cognitive development. Enrolling your child in a Kindergarten Newton NJ is a personal decision, though, and should be one that is made carefully and always with the best interests of your child in mind.

Is your child a quick learner, who you taught how to read yourself at home and who is eager to learn more? Then early enrollment in school–as early as four years old–is not a bad idea. Age is less of an issue in the kindergarten model than it is for other montessori methods of instruction. No matter how old your child is, he or she will receive just enough academic challenge and just the right amount of fun.

Waiting until your child is almost turning six is not necessarily a bad idea either, especially for children who might not seem ready yet to transition to the formal learning environment. However, give your child a chance. If you choose a Montessori school like Alpine, your child might respond positively to being in a semi-structured environment. The social interactions alone are a reason to send your children to school as soon as they are ready. Sometimes we don’t give our children enough credit, holding them back instead of letting them experience the world on their own terms, learning from the unique stimuli in a school environment.

If you have any doubts about whether your child is ready for kindergarten now, just call Alpine Montessori School and find out about their acclaimed programs.
