What You Need To Know About Relocating To A New Apartment In Charlotte, NC

by | Feb 6, 2016 | Moving

As Charlotte, NC is a very large city with many different neighborhoods, subdivisions and distinct areas, people who prefer living in apartments now have a lot more choices as to where they want to live. This is great for the city, but it can create some issues when relocating from one building to another.

The good news is that when you choose a local moving service that is very familiar with the city and that provides moving services on a daily basis, the company is usually aware of rules, regulations or requirements for relocating in different buildings. It is still a good idea to know what the rules are both for your building as well as the building you are moving into.

Access

It will be important when relocating to a new building to understand how the movers will be able to park and access the building. Some buildings, particularly the large complexes, have a specified loading dock and all moves in and out have to go through the dock.

If there is a dock, ask about the size of truck that can be accommodated, and then make sure to book the dock for the date and times needed. If there isn’t a dock, you may need a parking permit for the movers, which needs to be arranged in advance.

Moving Hours

If you are relocating into an apartment, you don’t have the freedom to move at any time of the day or night as you can with a private residence. Apartment managers are also very strict about when you can start moving in and out and when you have to stop for the evening.

It is critical for the moving service to know the information for both buildings. This will help them to coordinate the move and avoid issues with partial loading or unloading and then running out of time to complete the rest.

Elevator Use

As with the dock access, most buildings will require that moves in or out require a reservation on the freight elevator. In a building without a dedicated freight elevator there can be other rules in place when relocating.

Remember, if the movers have to use the stairs there will be an additional charge, so be sure to talk to the building manager and arrange for the use of the elevator well in advance.

Some buildings in Charlotte, NC may require the moving company you are using to relocating you belongings provides a certificate of insurance before the move begins. This is typically done a week or so in advance and shows the building manager that if there is any damage, the moving company is insured to cover the cost.
