What To Do When Replacing A Window Regulator Motor

by | Mar 22, 2018 | Auto Glass Shop

In Arizona, automobile owners need to install a new window regulator when the window doesn’t open and close properly. The regulator controls the electric window features and keeps the window from shifting out of place. Automotive shops can explain the process of installing a new Window Regulator Motor to the auto owners.

Disconnect the Battery

At any time you are working with electrical parts, it is highly recommended that you disconnect the car battery. If you don’t, there is a higher probability of getting shocked. Some repair services take the battery out entirely as a precaution.

Remove the Main Door Panel

The main door panel is held in place by a few screws that are easy to identify. Once the screws are out, unclip the panel and easily remove it from the door framing. Place all parts in a safe location so you don’t lose anything. Also, remove the weatherproofing from the door. You’ll need to disconnect all electrical connections, too.

Remove the Regulator

The window regulator is installed with a rivet. A drill bit that is the same size as the rivet is needed to remove the rivet and the regulator. Once the rivet is removed, it is relatively easy to just pull the regulator out of the door.

Installing the New Regulator

Push the screws through the regulator and line them up with the door frame. Line up the regulator with the track and make sure all the bolts are in the door frame properly. Adjust the window height when necessary. You can add nuts to the bolts if you prefer. You’ll need to tighten them with a socket wrench. Once the regulator is in place, reconnect the electrical wires and connections inside the door frame. Next, reinstall the main door panel.
