On top of these factors, there are different types of warehousing facilities to choose from, including public and contract warehouses. Public warehouses usually have a month to month lease and are paid per square foot. Contract warehouses are used for longer periods of time, with leases running for six or more months.

Warehouse Storage

After you chose the warehouse that is right for your business needs, there a typically three different kinds of storage to choose from, including floor, rack, and vault storage. The size and quantity of the items being stored will decide which type of storage is best for you.

Floor storage is used for storing items in bulk, meaning large quantities of the same item. The product is typically placed on pallets and is easily accessible for the owner to access the product when needed. The pallets can be stacked two to four pallets high and is organized in storage lanes.

Rack storage can be broken into the two subcategories, pallet racking and cantilever racking. Pallet racking consists of shelves in horizontal rows that are designed specifically to store pallets of items. Cantilever racking is deigned to store oversized and bulky items such as pipe and timber.
Vault storage typically consists of wooden storage vaults which are built in various sizes and are designed to be lifted by a forklift from all sides of the vault. Vault storage is usually used to store home goods.
