The vast majority of people who use smokeless tobacco in place of other smoking products in Alberta place the substance between their gum and their cheek or lip. Tobacco products that are not meant to be burned include smokeless tobacco. Chewing tobacco and snuff, including snus, are the two primary forms of smokeless tobacco that have historically been sold to consumers. For those that aren’t aware, snus is a kind of snuff.
What Is Chewing Tobacco?
A form of smokeless tobacco that is created from tobacco leaves that have been cured. Licorice and other ingredients can be added to sweeten and flavour these smoking products in Alberta. It can be purchased in the form of loose tobacco leaves, pellets or “bits” (tobacco leaves that have been rolled into small pellets), plugs (tobacco leaves that have been crushed and kept together with some sort of sweetener), or twists (leaf tobacco rolled into rope-like strands and twisted). It is then moved about in the mouth, often between the cheek and the lower lip, and it is possible to chew it.
What Is Snuff?
Tobacco is often finely powdered for use as snuff, which can either be dry or wet. It comes in tins or pouches as its packaging at places such as Native Smokes 4 Less. It may be flavoured. Snuff is applied as a grain-sized pinch along the gumline, either behind the lip or in the space between the gum and the cheek. The act of using snuff is sometimes referred to as dipping. Snorting is also an option for using dry snuff.
