Most industrial and commercial refrigeration systems work 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The demand on these systems is great, and it’s extremely important to keep them in good condition if you don’t want a lot of problems with downtime and expensive repairs. Here are some routine maintenance tips to help you keep commercial refrigeration system troubleshooting costs to a minimum.
Evaporator Systems
About once each month, you should check out the evaporator coils. Make sure they are not in need of cleaning, and there is no ice forming on the coils. The moisture drainage system should be inspected and cleaned when needed. If materials get into drains, they can make the evaporator unit freeze up, and this can cause big trouble.
Make sure the defrost system is working properly. If not, your evaporator can freeze, and this will shut down the entire cooling system. You should make sure the defrost heaters and thermostats are working properly. Take a look at the defrost timer too.
Check all the evaporator fans and components. Make sure the fan blades are in condition and not showing signs of unusual wear and tear. When you keep your evaporator system running smoothly, it simplifies the refrigeration system troubleshooting process when you have problems.
Condenser Unit
Once each month, check out all the condenser unit components. For example, look for loose electrical connections and do a visual check of everything. If something looks worn or broken, now is a good time for replacement.
Make sure the condenser coils are clean and the condenser fan blades are not dirty or bent. Look at the compressor contactor and check for signs of pitting at the contact points. Make sure all lug connections are tight and check the thermostat wiring. The better you maintain your system, the fewer refrigeration system troubleshooting issues you’ll have to deal with.
