Minding your Oil Keeps Your Toyota Corolla Engine in Top Shape

In this troubled economy, people are keeping their cars longer, or at least, they would like to. Many people buy Toyota Corollas for their durability and longevity. In order to have a healthy, older car, you need to begin caring for the engine from day one and continue to do so throughout the life of the car. The engine is the heart of the car, almost everything else depends on it. Without the Toyota Corolla engine, the car is simple a metal box on wheels.

Frequent Oil Changes
If the engine is the heart of the car, then the oil may very well be the blood. If it becomes thick and grimy, it will not be able to carry out its job efficiently. This will immediately affect the health of your engine. You should have your oil changed frequently. Although newer cars allow for more time to pass between recommended oil changes, it is still a fact that frequent oil changes remove dirt and metal from the engine, extending the life of the engine. In the owner’s manual, there is an oil change recommendation interval for “severe conditions.” Regardless of your driving conditions, this should be the recommendation you follow. Also, only use higher quality oil. Although it may be less expensive to use the cheap stuff at the time, you could get hit with a big bill down the road thanks to that low quality oil.

Check Oil Level Regularly
If there is only one thing you know how to do under the hood of your car it should be how to check the oil level. The oil level will drop naturally over time, through leaks or by getting burned up by the engine. Driving with low oil can be damaging to your Toyota Corolla engine. If your low oil light comes on, stop driving the car immediately before any damage occurs.
