For any type of grain processing, including for feed companies, commercial food production or for specialized services such as custom rolling, crimping or cracking, a single high or double high roller mill can provide consistent, top quality final products for any needs.
The Basics
For any type of grains, including wheat, barley, corn, sorghum and oats as well as black pepper, rice, mustard seed and soybeans, a single high roller mill offers a consistent option to creating uniform crimping, cracking and rolling to the specific size required.
Every roller mill operates on a similar principle, including the double level models. There are cylindrical rollers, which typically are set on top of each other, or one roller against a plate, which crush, crimp and crack grains or other materials as they are fed through the system.
Some models of roller mills are portable, built directly onto small trailers for easy moving to any location. Others, particularly in feed mills and in commercial food production lines, are built to be stationary and may be configured to fit with existing processing lines.
Beyond the Basics
When choosing a roller mill, there are several things to consider based on your specific application. One of the most important will be the throughput of the system measured in pounds per hour, bushels per hour, or tons per hour the model can process.
For larger models with more throughput choosing an agitator feeder as an extra option is always a wise decision. This will provide an event distribution of the whole grain across the rollers to allow for optimal speed in processing as well as very consistent rolled product.
To ensure a long life for the roller mill make sure it is designed to allow the rollers to move apart when a hard object such as a rock or any small piece of metal enters into the rollers. With this protection, there is less risk of any damage to the rollers and also much less chance of jamming up the system and causing damage to the drive.
With the option to quickly change the operational position of the rollers automatically to allow for objects in the grain, as well as the opportunity to quickly clear any clogs by simply adjusting the gap, any roller mill will be easy to operate and will last through years of daily use.
