Easy Eye Care Tips

Your eyes are one of the most valuable of your body’s assets. Problems with them can be hard to treat, and yet many people do not know there are steps they can take to ensure their eyes remain healthy long term. With a few helpful eye care tips, it may be possible to improve your vision or at least protect them. What can you do?

Your diet matters. A good place to start when it comes to eye care is improving your diet. A diet that has a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, especially those that are deep, leafy green colors and deep yellow colors, are rich in nutrients that are so important for your eyes. You also want to increase the amount of omega-3 fatty acids you consume.

Get exercise. Your body benefits from proper weight management and physical activity. When it comes to your eyes, the benefit here is keeping diabetes at bay. The National Institutes of Health recommends avoiding diabetic conditions that commonly cause diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is one of the most common causes of vision loss in seniors.

And, protect your vision from surrounding conditions. If you are going to be exposed to smoke, falling objects, or potentially aggressive play in which you could be poked in the eye, wear protective eye coverings. You also will want to wear sunglasses with ample UV protection when you are out in the sun.

Perhaps the most important part of eye care, though, has to do with being aggressively vigilant. Your goal should always be to ensure that your eyes are being screened by a licensed optician. You should get routine assessments from an eye doctor and, if there are any concerns with your vision, work with a specialist. By taking these steps, you can work to protect your eyes in the long term.
