Look for Open Water
When lakes and rivers start to freeze, ducks will congregate around water sources that remain open to them. This can result in some extraordinary hunting opportunities! Just look for broken ice, melted snow, small streams and wind-exposed bluffs.
Use Decoys
Decoys are a time-honored tradition in duck hunting, and they’re especially useful in cold weather when the ducks might need a little extra coaxing to show themselves. The good news is that you don’t need an entire army of decoys. A few should get the job done just fine.
