Advice From Houston Local Movers

by | Jan 31, 2017 | Moving

Moving within the city of Houston or in the smaller centers immediately around the city will require the services of local movers. These movers will typically bring one truck, carefully selected to match the size of your move, and complete the move in one day.

However, depending on the time your truck is loaded and if there are complications that occur, the delivery can be delayed. One of the biggest causes of delays during moving is when the homeowners aren’t prepared when the local movers arrive.

To help prevent these types of issues, here are some important tips to stay on a timeline for the moving day and to also remain organized.

Do a day before moving day walk through – go through the entire home at least a day before the move. Check closets, storage spaces, attics, crawl spaces, cupboards and other spaces to make sure nothing has been forgotten or left behind.

Finish packing early – plan to finish packing at least one or two days before the move. Just keep out a few things and a couple of boxes to pack things on the last day. By planning to finalize packing one to two days before the move you have a bit of a grace period if you run behind.

Hiring packers early – if you realize packing your Houston home is a more of a job than you anticipated, contact your moving coordinator and hire a packing crew. Don’t wait until the last day or week as it may take a few days for packing crew to be available, particularly during the busy summer moving season.

Finally, make sure to be at home when the local movers are scheduled to arrive. You can have a designated person there to sign, but they have to be over 18, be sure to check with your moving coordinator as some companies may have different policies regarding who can and cannot sign the necessary paperwork.
