Now that you have your own apartment, it’s time to start thinking about acquiring renter’s insurance. You may not own the building that you are living in, but you probably own your furniture, electronic devices, some appliances, your clothing, and your sporting equipment. If there is a fire, flood, tornado, or theft, you need insurance to cover the cost of replacing the essential personal property in your life. Your insurance may also cover the cost of additional housing if your current living arrangement is not available. Some policies also cover you if someone sues you following an injury in your rental home. BGSU Student Housing has some great places to live, but check out some renters insurance and gain some peace of mind.

Every State Has Its Own Renter’s Insurance Requirements

Although renter’s insurance is not mandatory in Ohio, your landlord could require it before you close on your BGSU student housing apartment lease. When you purchase your renter’s insurance, be sure and work with an agent who is familiar with Ohio laws ad requirements because every state has its own set of regulations.

How Much Does Renter’s Insurance Cost?

It all depends on what kind of coverage you have and the insurance company that you contract with for the coverage. Many insurers find that they have adequate coverage of their property with a payment as low as $10 to $20 per month.
