Lead wire is used for a variety of different applications. Lead wire spool products are designed to be easy to use, with the wire formed and pre-cut into specific lengths and then wrapped on a spool for storage and convenience of use.
The Benefits of Spools
This material can be used in the formation of bullets, typically known as bullet wire, as well as larger diameter lead wire spool sizes. Typically, this lead wire can run in size from the very small diameters of just 0.93 of an inch to as large as 0.75 of an inch.
The diameter of the wire will impact the weight of the spool. Most spools are sold by weight of either 25 pounds or 50 pounds, weight a standard length of wire provided based on the weight.
The soft nature of lead makes it a natural option to wind the wire on the lead wire spool. This also provides protection for the wire and protects it from crimping and folding during shipping and storage.
The Manufacturing Process
Lead wire of any diameter is made through a simple extrusion process. The lead is forced through a die that is the required diameter of the wire. This forms a long, continual thread of lead wire that is then cut to the desired length, typically every ten feet.
This wire is then wound onto the spools using automated systems. The spools are designed to accommodate the 25 or 50 pounds of wire, with the machine verifying the final weight before ending the winding process.
In addition to using spools, it is also possible to pack lead wire in longer, sustained coils or in drums. Both will provide the protection for the softer lead material while also making it easy to ship, store and work with the material.
