Do’s and Don’ts for Your Programmable Thermostat

Once you make the decision to purchase a programmable Heat Repair in Loveland thermostat it is important to use it properly in order to benefit from its usage. Here are some do’s and don’ts for using a programmable thermostat.

Do: Allow the program to run at its set points. There are usually four settings designed to allow you to program your thermostat so it can run your HVAC system efficiently. In order to save the average of 1 percent per degree you have to allow the set backs to run for a full 8-hours. Bed time and during the work day are perfect times to take advantage of this.

Don’t:  Keep looking at that manual over ride as a way to get comfortable. Try to train yourself to avoid using it even when the weather is very warm or cold. These interruptions are very costly. If you do give in and use the manual over ride keep in mind that it will only run the manual temperature until the next setting. This means if you get home on a sweltering day and adjust the temperature and there was only 45 minutes left until the next setting, it will over ride your over ride.

Do: Use the correct settings if you go away with the hold/permanent/vacation setting. Remember in the winter to select several degrees lower and in the summer several degrees higher. This will allow for the most savings.

Don’t: Pump your finger to bring the heat up or down thinking this will speed things up. All you will do is end up wasting energy. The system will take the same amount of time to heat up or cool dow. Just select the temperature you want to reach and it will adjust at its own pace.

Do: Adjust your setback between 7 and 15 degrees higher or lower than what you feel is your ideal comfort level. It should be warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter. This will help you reach levels that will result in the most energy savings.
