Harvester Head – Durable and Dependable

Tree chopping is definitely a demanding job, and a dangerous one as well. But no matter how hard the ax men work, there is no chance of ever out-logging one of these things. A Harvester is a multi-function forestry machine used to fell, de-limb, and stack trees for transport to processing. The harvester head is designed and built for rugged harvesting applications, and are simple and easy to maintain. The harvester head must endure extreme stress and at the same time operate accurately and as gently as possible so as not to damage the trunk surface unnecessarily.

Clearing the Forest Made Easier
Deforestation or clearing the forest occurs for many reasons: trees are cut down to be used or sold as fuel or timber, while other times land must be cleared to be used as a pasture for livestock, or for commodities. Whatever the need, the harvester is there to get the job done. There have been many advances in technology when it comes to forestry equipment, large areas of forest can be harvested in a fraction of the time by a single lumberjack, all from a comfortable seated position. In fact, the harvester can make short work nowadays.

The harvester was originally developed to tackle the forests of Sweden and Finland, and was introduced in the early 1980s. The machine was designed to work in tough terrain. At the end of the harvester’s long boom is the felling head, which the operator uses to grasp a tree while a large rotating blade slices through its base. Once the tree has toppled, delimbing knives in the felling head strip the tree of stems and branches. Finally, a chainsaw cuts the tree by the desired length for other machinery to collect later.

Clearing the Way to Profitability
Harvesters are used on a wide scale for the harvesting of plantation forests and for clearcutting forests and in thinning operations. Having the right equipment for the right job is important. Harvesters are usually built on an all-terrain wheel or tracked vehicle that can maneuver on level ground and steep forest terrain. Consistent production and minimal downtime coupled with reliability in your equipment is what you can expect from a good harvester head.
