5 Cleaning Mistakes that Really Slow the Work Down

by | Jan 7, 2016 | Cleaning

Don’t want to spend money on a residential window cleaning service when you think it’s easy enough to do the job on your own? You might think your cleaning skills are perfect but here are some of the most basic cleaning mistakes you keep making, according to Good House Keeping:

1. Picking a sunny day to clean your windows. You’d think that a clear, sunny day is the perfect time to wipe the dust and grime off your windows. You thought wrong. With the sun out and about, it only takes a few seconds for the cleaner to dry on your windows. If that isn’t bad enough, this leaves unsightly, long lasting stains on the windows. If you’re really set on washing your windows under the sweltering heat of the sun, then start with the shadowy corners, windows that light hardly touched.

2. Leaving the sills dusty and uncleaned. Cleaning the sills of dust should be on top of your list. It’s incredibly tempting to skip this tedious process, though. Who wants to meticulously dust off the crevices and creases of your windows? However, if you stop dusting the sills, then any drop of water you use to clean the windows up will end up as a muddy blot which could be an absolute nightmare to get rid of. So remember to dust the grime away before you even think about picking up a wet cloth to scrub the dirt from your windows.

3. Not enough window cleaning solution. Don’t skimp on the cleaner. Use generous amounts of window cleaner to get rid of the dirt and grime. If you don’t, you’re just going to leave streaks behind.

4. Using newspaper to dry the windows off. While a lot of people seem to believe in using newspaper to dry the windows, it’s not a solution that works for everyone. One reason for that could be because different newspapers often have different ink solutions—some could be streaky while others are good at giving windows a shine. You really must try different newspapers to know which ones work the best for your windows.

5. Not hiring a cleaning service. A professional residential window cleaning service knows what it takes to give you spotless windows in a fast, efficient, and timely fashion.

So don’t try to do it on your own. For faster turnaround times and better cleaning results, ask for professional help.
